Rejoice! I survived NaNoWriMo again

It's December now, and you will be happy, dear reader, to know that I have once more survived the madness of November that is NaNoWriMo. I got my 50,000 words done. The story is not all told, though, so I'm still writing it.

I'm one of those people who get the title at the end. This story hasn't yet told me what its name is, so I can't tell you what it will be yet. In it, a bipolar fiddler, grieving over her husband, finds that people around her are not what they seem to be. Especially worrying is her psychiatrist's insanity, and that it seems to be contagious. I've included some thriller elements, psychic phenomena, journaling and green smoothies. It's fun, and not at all what I thought it would be when I started out.

This is the fifth year in a row that I've participated in NaNoWriMo and won. You're considered to have won if you complete your 50,000 words during the month and validate your word count on the site at NaNoWriMo.org. A lot of people participate. It seems to me that the first time they try it, a lot of participants don't finish, but if they do it again the next year, they do make it. I tried in 2003, and failed, but went back in 2006 and hit it again.

From the NaNoWriMo.org site:
"In 2009, we had over 165,000 participants. More than 30,000 of them crossed the 50K finish line by the midnight deadline, entering into the annals of NaNoWriMo superstardom forever. They started the month as auto mechanics, out-of-work actors, and middle school English teachers. They walked away novelists."

So, in 2011, want to join me?

Thanks, Dixie! I'm having fun with this story. It's longer than some of my other ones, so far, as it's more complex. Naturally, a lot will change in the re-writing phase. I love my characters, and am enjoying "fiddling" around with their different thinking and speaking styles. I like good dialogue, so always try to incorporate a lot of it. Green smoothies are wonderful! I have more energy when I drink them, and don't have leg cramps, evidence that I'm getting the right amount of minerals. Green smoothies are the easiest way to get your quota of greens, or dark green leafy vegetables, as mainline nutrition folks call them. You have to have a really high-powered blender to make a variety of smoothies, though. If you don't have a turbo blender (like a Vitamix or Blendtec) then you can make pretty good smoothies using the more tender greens and fruits. You just blend about 1 part greens with one part pure cold water and 1 part fruit. The taste is just nice and fresh. If you are getting a bitter taste you don't like, then simply add more fruit. I like spinach and pears with ginger and lemon peel. I've made a lot of other combinations, too, of course. There's almost a cult around these things, they're so good for you. Here's a little video on them by one of the most popular green smoothie freaks. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eXr8-jru1KE (Sorry I couldn't get the stupid html to work right for me! I followed the directions, and it just won't do it.)

Thanks, Franci! I will get it ready. It's a keeper. Or a sender... well. You know what I mean, I think.

Kathy, Good to hear from you and that you are still writing! I have been writing boating articles for Freshwater News, but not making much progress on my novel. Marili
