If gearing up means alternately wandering around in complete bewilderment and ignoring November first's approach, then I'm gearing up big time. I love NaNoWriMo, also known as National Novel Writing Month. It happens every November, when thousands of people strive to write 50,000 words. That's less than 2000 words a day, which is not that hard. Very do-able. I want more folks to do it with me. The few thousand who did it in 2009 weren't enough. I would love to have some of my family members and friends join me this year. Don't say "next year" again this year. Just do it. The first two years I won, I had a full-time job and a commute, and you know I'm a lazy creature. If I can do it, anybody can. Go to nanowrimo.org and check it out. I have not yet turned 2009's NaNo into a salable piece. I can, but I haven't managed it yet. Likewise with 2008's, 2007's and 2006's. But all of them were good first drafts, and all of them were fun, and all of them proved to me that I can crank out the work when I practice BIC-HOK. What? You don't know what BIC-HOK is? It stands for Butt In Chair-Hands on Keyboard. Around here, I think I would also have to add NF to the end of it, for No Facebook. Dang, I love facebook. My friends live there, and most of my games, and it's a fantastic forum for smartass remarks and snappy comebacks. Just my kind of place. You ought to check it out. No, on second thought, don't. It's too attractive. It will eat your brain as it has mine. |
